“We are proud to support the Companion program, a humane service providing invaluable comfort through the presences of an able, caring, familiar member of Spectrum’s hands-on staff.”
-Kate and Vince O’Brien
Spectrum for Living prides itself on the special, personal care we offer residents in our Intermediate Care Facility, Group Homes and Supervised Apartments.
Our staff devotes itself to the needs of our clients with developmental disabilities and works hard to make each and every day a safe, secure and stimulating experience, even in times of special need.
All of us get sick and sometimes need medical attention. All of us experience personal crises. When a person with developmental disabilities has a health problem that requires off-site care, or a personal emergency, new challenges present themselves.
Who will tell the hospital nurse that their patient needs their food pureed?
How will that nurse know what medications are routinely taken?
Who will accompany a person in a wheelchair on the plane home to his parent’s funeral?
Who will help him say good bye?
When you can’t be there, we are.
At Spectrum for Living we recognize that a family member is not always available to provide a supportive presence in times of special need. That is when we step in and provide a companion staff person to help ease the way – in the hospital, on a plane or where clients need extra assistance. Spectrum Companions may provide service for a few hours or in shifts 24/7 for days at a time. We stand by our clients to reassure, provide support, security and most of all safety.
But this special care is incredibly costly. Historically, Spectrum for Living has underwritten the expense of companion care. This means many hours of staff overtime out of an annual budget already stretched by government cutbacks and increasing costs.
Won’t you help make certain that this hallmark service is always available to our clients? Please consider a generous donation to Spectrum for Living Companion Fund. Gifts can be made in honor of a special person, a milestone occasion, or as a memorial. Or consider establishing a fund in perpetuity to support this wonderful service. Please contact the Development Department toll free at (866) 367-7732 or (201) 358-8000 for additional information.
